“Our overall vision is to provide a home for the girls’ physical, spiritual and mental development, to offer protection, and meet their needs for good food and good health, We’re working to train them up, to learn how to function on their own in society as adults, and for them to find God’s plan and purpose for their lives.” - Carroll Bishop, Site Director of Shadow of His Wings

“Sombra de sus Alas” or “Shadow of His Wings,” is a government-approved orphanage. The girls live in a home setting in groups of 12 with house parents for each group. The duplex residences are capable of housing 24 girls, 2 sets of house parents and attending staff. Shadow of His Wings has already received children through court orders from throughout Guatemala.
One girl was a ten-year-old from the streets who had been selling candy in the city buses for years, with deep scars from being tortured with burns. Two are daughters of prostitutes, one of whom had been included in her mother’s profession since she was six. Two girls arrived badly beaten. One of the youngest girls was sexually abused repeatedly by her father, and a baby was abandoned and delivered to firemen in a cardboard box.

The stories are all unique, yet share the common thread of an existence that runs contrary to the most basic needs of humanity – safety and care. All of the girls are improving physically and emotionally and are working on catching up in their education. Many have accepted the Lord and are receiving continuous spiritual guidance while under the care of the dedicated and loving staff of Shadow of His Wings.
